Why Buy a Stellantis CTP Vehicle? | Golling Roseville

Buying guide: Stellantis Courtesy Transportation Program

Why buy a Stellantis CTP vehicle? Four reasons, and when new is still better

A courtesy vehicle is a nearly new Jeep, Ram, Chrysler or Dodge that keeps its new-car rebates, usually adds CTP cash on top, and often leases for less than new. Here's how that works at our Gratiot Avenue store, and what to ask before you sign.

Every day, our service drive on Gratiot hands customers the keys to a new Jeep, Ram, Chrysler or Dodge to drive while their own vehicle is in our shop. Those loaners are part of the Stellantis Courtesy Transportation Program, or CTP. After a short stretch in the loaner fleet, each one is sold, typically as a current or recent model year with low miles.

Shoppers usually find CTP vehicles by accident, then ask the same question: why would I buy one instead of new? Here are the four reasons we hear most, and the cases where new is still the better call.

Four reasons to buy a CTP vehicle

1. You keep the new-car rebates

A CTP vehicle qualifies for the new-car rebates and incentives running on that model, plus Employee and Friends & Family pricing. A typical used vehicle gets none of that.

2. Most add CTP cash on top

Most CTP units qualify for additional rebates that the same vehicle new does not get. That's where the real price gap usually comes from.

3. The lease can cost less than new

More money off the same model can mean a lower lease payment than leasing that vehicle new. For lessees, this is often the biggest reason.

4. You know who maintained it

Our Mopar® certified technicians serviced it the whole time it was a loaner, so the history lives in our own system.

When new is still the better buy

  • You want a specific build. CTP inventory is whatever came out of the loaner fleet. If you need a certain trim, color, bed length or tow package, new or a factory order wins.
  • You plan to keep it for many years. The factory warranty on a CTP vehicle started on its in-service date, so you get the remainder, not a fresh start.
  • You're counting on original-owner coverage. New 2026 Ram trucks carry a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty for the original owner. If that coverage matters to you, ask us to confirm in writing how it applies to a specific CTP Ram 1500 before you choose it over a new one.

CTP lease vs new lease: where the payment difference comes from

A lease payment comes down to three things: the price after rebates, the residual value at the end of the term, and the rate. A CTP vehicle starts with the same new-car incentives as the new version of that model. When it also qualifies for additional CTP rebates, the price after rebates drops further, and the payment follows.

Rebate amounts, eligibility and lease terms vary by model, program period and credit approval. We'll list every rebate a specific CTP vehicle qualifies for.

Where to finance a CTP lease

If you usually finance through a credit union, check before you shop. Most credit unions don't offer leases on CTP vehicles. Stellantis Financial Services, Ally and U.S. Bank do, and those are the lenders we use to write CTP leases at our store. If you'd rather buy than lease, your credit union may still be an option for a CTP purchase, so bring its rate and we'll compare.

Lease ending soon? Our Lease Return Department can walk you through your lease-end options and quote a CTP version of your next Jeep or Ram next to a new one, so you can see both payments before you turn your current vehicle in.

Why your contract may say "used"

This catches people off guard. A CTP vehicle has been titled to the dealership and driven as a loaner, so depending on state rules and the lender's program, the retail or lease contract may be written as a used vehicle even though it still gets new-car incentives. Stellantis Financial Services' guidance for the CTP program, for example, has dealers mark such contracts "USED" where state guidelines require it. It doesn't change the rebates you qualify for. We'll show you how your paperwork reads before you sign.

The warranty, in plain numbers

Standard Stellantis coverage is a 3-year/36,000-mile basic limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, both measured from the date the vehicle went into loaner service. A CTP vehicle that has been in service for five months has about two years and seven months of basic coverage left, minus the miles already on it. For most lessees, whose lease ends inside the basic warranty, the head start matters very little.

Five questions to ask our CTP desk

  1. Which rebates does this VIN qualify for?New-car incentives and any additional CTP rebates, listed on paper.
  2. What's the in-service date? That date sets how much factory warranty is left.
  3. How many miles, and how do they affect my lease allowance?Loaner miles vary from unit to unit, even on the same model.
  4. Can I see the original window sticker and service records?Know the exact trim, packages and 4x4 system, and every visit it made to our shop.
  5. What's the payment new vs CTP?Ask for both quotes side by side, on the same term and mileage. Leasing? The CTP quote will come through Stellantis Financial Services, Ally or U.S. Bank.

Our CTP Administrator, Kennedy Crow, manages the fleet and can answer the first two questions for any unit on the lot. Meet her and the rest of the team on our staff page.

What we usually have on the lot

Our CTP fleet follows what our service customers drive, so Ram 1500, Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Compass and Wrangler units come through most often, with the occasional Pacifica or Durango. Inventory changes weekly. See today's CTP vehicles, or read more about the Stellantis Courtesy Transportation Program.

Questions we hear at the store

Why buy a Stellantis CTP vehicle instead of new?

A CTP vehicle qualifies for the new-car rebates and incentives on that model, most also qualify for additional CTP rebates, and that combination can make the price or lease payment lower than the same vehicle new. Buy new instead if you need a specific build or want the full factory warranty from day one.

What is a CTP vehicle?

A CTP vehicle is a new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram that a dealership used as a service loaner through the Stellantis Courtesy Transportation Program. After its time in the loaner fleet, it is sold, usually as a current or recent model year with low miles.

Can I lease a CTP vehicle?

Yes. Stellantis Financial Services, Ally and U.S. Bank all offer leases on CTP vehicles. Most credit unions do not, so a CTP lease is usually written through one of those three lenders. Because they keep new-car incentives and most add CTP rebates, a CTP lease payment can be lower than leasing the same model new. Loaner miles already on the vehicle count toward the lease mileage, so compare both quotes on the same term.

Why does my CTP contract say used?

A CTP vehicle was titled to the dealer and driven as a loaner, so depending on state rules and the lender's program, the contract may be written as used even though the vehicle still qualifies for new-car incentives. Ask to see how your paperwork reads before you sign.

How much warranty is left on a CTP vehicle?

Standard Stellantis coverage is 3 years/36,000 miles basic and 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain, measured from the date the vehicle entered loaner service. Subtract the time and miles since that in-service date to see what remains.

Does a CTP Ram 1500 get the 10-year powertrain warranty?

New 2026 Ram trucks carry a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty for the original owner. Coverage on a specific CTP Ram depends on the program terms, so ask us to confirm it in writing for that truck.

CTP vehicle availability, mileage and equipment vary. Rebates, incentives and Employee and Friends & Family pricing are subject to manufacturer program rules, vary by model and program period, and not all customers or vehicles will qualify. Lease payments depend on vehicle, term, mileage, credit approval and current programs; a CTP lease payment is not guaranteed to be lower than a new-vehicle lease. Contract treatment of CTP vehicles depends on state and lender requirements. CTP lease availability varies by lender; leases are subject to lender approval through Stellantis Financial Services, Ally or U.S. Bank. Factory warranty coverage begins on the vehicle's original in-service date; see dealer for remaining coverage and complete terms.
